A man in Floyd County is now in police custody following his arrest on Christmas Eve. The Alabama man faces charges for various drug crimes including possession of methamphetamine. It is not clear if the 45-year-old is currently still in police custody, or if he has been released in advance of a trial date. It is also unknown if he has retained criminal defense counsel at this time.
The information on this arrest is limited at this time, but police have confirmed the man was arrested in Cedar Bluff on Christmas Eve. Police did not clarify what caused the initial encounter between the man and officers, but it does not appear to have been predicated by an existing drug investigation. The man was reportedly noncompliant with police when asked to submit to cuffing, and the man was apparently subdued by a K-9 unit.
At this point, the canine unit reportedly alerted officers to the presence of drugs, whereupon police said they found a pipe and a small amount of what they believe to be methamphetamine. The man now stands accused of possession of methamphetamine, a felony charge. He has also been charged with misdemeanor possession of drug-related objects and obstruction.
If he is found guilty of these drug crimes, the man could face incarceration.
